The Reality and Anxiety of Anti-Semitism

The Shir Ami Caring Circle hosted a special speaker at the April 4, 2025 Shabbat. Jackie Nirenberg, Jackie Nirenberg the Regional Director for the ADL (Anti-Defamation League) for Central Texas and Interim Regional Director for the Southwest Region based in Houston, spoke to the theme for the evening. Regional Director Nirenberg addressed the general state of antisemitism, the latest statistics from the ADL and FBI, and findings from ADL's recent study on communicating about antisemitism with non-Jewish audiences. About the speaker:

Jackie Nirenberg serves as the regional director for the ADL (Anti-Defamation League) for Central Texas and Interim Regional Director for the Southwest Region based in Houston. The daughter of a Holocaust survivor, Jackie has dedicated her career to advancing social justice, building community. Prior to joining the ADL in June of 2022, Jackie served as the director of community engagement for Capital Metro, Austin’s transit authority. Her work in equitable public engagement was recognized by the International Association for Public Participation and by Women in Transportation Seminar International. She has served as co-president and board member for the Austin chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women, on the Legacy Leadership Circle for The New Philanthropists, and was a founding cohort member of Leadership Austin’s Leading Across Divides program. She holds a master's degree in journalism and a bachelor's degree in advertising from the University of Texas and has lived in Austin since 2003.
